Most people would consider it an old-fashioned idea. Thanks to late-stage capitalism, which only rewards narrower and narrower specialization. It's the assembly line mentality of the industrial revolution applied to humanity. Specialization is much more efficient, you see.
Because that's the goal, right? Just keep producing more widgets in less time for less money, forever.
